![]() My friends, we're at a serious cross roads in the world. What we do is either adding to a problem, solving it or in the blurry middle. If you're like me, you're more motivated than ever to be part of a solution instead of somewhere in the blurry middle. I'd like to ask you to take a hard look at what work you're doing in the world - and whether you're solving a problem, creating one or somewhere in the blurry middle. Truth is, most people are somewhere in the middle. And what can we do about it? Our society, the market and our economy are built on that blurry in the middle. Technology that solves a problem - ie. clean energy, can actually be causing a problem somewhere else - and usually is. Mining the stuff that creates our technology is a problem for indigenous and rural communities all over the world. Without mining, cobalt, tantalum, tin, copper, tungston...and all the minerals in our cell phones, servers, devices and cars would not be possible. Or would it? Could it?
We know on some psychic unconscious level that our comforts often come at the expense of someone else's pain. We may not know it consciously but the world is connected. We are all part of this cosmic rock and we're all connected. Somewhere in the psyche lives a knowing. And what can we do about it? What are we willing to do about a failing Democracy and justice system? What are we willing to do about the issues we hold dear? How far are we willing to go to ask ourselves where we're complicit? My firm has been working with companies to help them align their corporate social responsibility programs and sustainability missions to focus on solving problems their industry causes. Many companies (you've heard of) are a few steps removed from that first leg of the supply chain that displaces rural and often indigenous people by means of corruption. Those minerals and raw materials in our stuff are often sourced in ways that leave disproportionate scars on communities of color or indigenous people. The key to coming into alignment ourselves so we can then bring our business and companies into alignment is to be willing to ask some very hard questions. We have to be willing to take responsibility. We look at what IS happening in Charlottesville, Virginia. The craziness. What's the value of a life? What's the value of a life in the United States? A White life, a Black life, an Asian life, a Latino life, a Jewish life, a Muslim life... and all lives? What's the value of a Native American's life or Congolese child's life in the mines of Kivo? Where are the mines? Where are the factories? Where are the pipelines? As a result of the events in Charlottesville and the President's response at least 3 CEOs of major corporations stepped down from the Presidential Council to take a stand for what crossed their personal line as 'not ok.' Sure they did it as a statement to their company yet there is a moment where you feel in your gut, the line has been crossed. And you act. You don't. Or you stay in the blurry middle. EVERYONE needs to know their line and admit to themselves whether they are part of the problem, solution or the blurry middle. Why am I sharing this? Because we as conscious professionals witnessing a world that's going nuts, are participating in the problem. We ALL are if we are on this grid, on our device reading this, or shopping on Amazon. We are all part of the problem and the GOOD NEWS is we are ALL PART OF THE SOLUTION. We are in need of some INNOVATIVE GAME CHANGING SOLUTIONS. Sean King's words hit home, "We are witnessing a dip in the quality of humanity."There's the reality we see in the physical and there is a whole other layer in the invisible that's energetic and it's having an impact. It's so intense, it leads to cognitive dissonance. How are we supposed to go about our lives and thrive while feeling the level of empathy needed to neutralize the dark forces that are unleashed? Light workers are working double time to live, thrive, grieve and unleash more light to neutralize that dark force. How can we all be part of the solution if we're not embodying our inner Yoda? Taking a deep hard look within and ask some BIG questions. How can we each align our values to our purchasing decisions, educate ourselves on the impact of our lifestyles, look for innovative options and solutions, and focus our business on what we really care most about? I help organizations, thought leaders and influencers be the game changing compass to lead the consciousness revolution being called forth in every silo of our existence right now. How can a giant megalith of a company with thousands of tentacles all over this Earth align with a solution to environmental and social harm -not just mitigate problems but truly solve them? That's where Intentional Paradigms comes in. How can a thought leader create a legacy impact, an entrepreneur create inner and outer alignment that let's them be a solution and fulfill their mission or a leader influence their team to be the change that infiltrates a company's culture? These are the questions we need to be asking. It's all about asking the right questions and being WILLING to lead the change. These are serious times, reach out and let's play with some mega solutions for you or your organization! PS. I had the honor of moderating this panel for the American Bar Association's Section of Civil Rights & Social Justice: From Standing Rock to Flint: Water Rights Race & Resistance As Vice Chair of the Environmental Justice Committee for the American Bar Association I'm often seen bringing voices of truth to the table. This was one of those times. The speakers here are super powerful and shared front line important perspectives. Keith Harper, Ambassador to UN Human Rights Counsel and citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Jodi Gillette, Policy Advisor to Obama and member of the Standing Rock Tribe, Julie Hurwitz, co-lead counsel for the Flint Class Action and Daniel Sheehan long time civil rights attorney (my hero) and lead counsel for the Lakota People's Law Project.
