Sustainability is a Mindset

* Sustainability is:
  • a mindset
  • a soft skill
  • a way of seeing the world
  • a world view
  • a lens
  • a feeling
  • a caring
  • an ability to listen
  • to know
  • to hear
  • a consciousness
  • a love for life
  • connecting of dots
  • a way of being.

True sustainability is not an appendage, a bandaid, a fix or marketing strategy.
It's not a compartmentalized part of the mind or silo'd part of an organization.

We've all had our awakening moments. Mine was 1995.

When was your 'sustainability ah ha moment?'

Within the paradox, no going back:

When you've sat in the hut of an Indigenous (Achuar) medicine man in the middle of the most pristine jungle landscape and experienced instantaneous healing from a life threatening illness only to learn the next day this place was sold by Ecuador to a foreign mining company and a few years later you receive confirmation the magical vortex that saved you is now a copper mine, something is instilled inside of you that won't go away.

When no 'advanced modern' method could help you for 2.5 years of struggle and pain, and ancient wisdom is what heals you, in a powerful energized virgin forest sitting upon a bed of activated copper resting deep in Earth in the Amazon Jungle, something inside of you knows we as humans have lost our way and are missing a huge opportunity to see the world through a more holistic lens.

Copper is used in renewable energy.

It will continue to be sought, people moved or disproportionately impacted, nature mined, water polluted, roads built, ecosystems damaged, forests cleared, people displaced and culturally harmed, and traditional knowledge lost.

  • Is this sustainable?
  • To some yes, to others no.
  • How do we reconcile this dissonance.

And yes the benefits of copper are undoubtedly necessary in our world today.

And so is the wisdom of our ancient counterparts, our brothers and sisters who live close to the land, with a deep understanding of traditional knowledge, wisdom we in the current economic paradigm have lost as we've learned and adapted to only modern ways.

How do we define sustainable development?

“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987)

  • Future generations of who?

True sustainability needs to balance the definition of those in resource (currency) scarcity with the definition of those who are resource rich including countries (leaders with wealth and power) and companies and marketers who are currently declaring the narrative.

What is true now:

  • Together we have dreamed this world into being.
  • We have agreed collectively that this paradigm is our reality.
  • We buy into ideas that are just ideas yet become standard ways of living and doing business. They were our ideas. We can change them.
  • A paradigm is a set of rules beliefs or assumptions by which a group or society live. We can shift a paradigm. We are. There is push back. We persevere for the right thing.
  • We need to change the modern dream into one that recognizes a 'Life Economy.

First Annual Dream Change Sustainability Leadership Program & Expedition.

This program is a game changer, a problem solver, a unique and precious opportunity for companies, executive leaders, and visionary change agents who want a competitive edge while deeply affecting real catalytic holistic, systemic, new economic, resilient, sustainable change.

Our projects align current business trends, solid leadership theory, and sustainability and CSR best practices with principles of respect, reparations and reconciliation with nature and for Indigenous peoples.

"Indigenous peoples, with their decades of personal experience combined with that of their ancestors, harbour vast knowledge about the environment and the ecological relationships within them. Tremendous opportunities exist where such knowledge can contribute to modern science and natural resource management." here

We are bridging a much needed gap in corporate sustainability and bringing a deep holistic understanding - at a soul level - of what sustainable perception can mean, what conscious leadership and sustainability leadership look like and how to operationalize systems change for resilient long term regenerative business.

Our program is curated with 15 spaces open by invitation only. Applications are now open and we look forward to sharing more details soon. Please reach out with any questions, contact info below.

  • What does sustainability mean to you?
  • What does sustainability leadership mean to you?
